Friday 3 June “The Scottish Heatwave”

What a great day and I was off for the weekend to Newtonmore deep in the Highlands. I was playing a Seniors golf Open with my friend Tom Jones. The weather was incredible blue skies and very hot for Scotland about 28 degrees! We played with a lovely gentleman from Aviemore Ewan Mitchell who knew my mutual friends Ray and Myrtle in Aviemore. The golf was poor but the views incredible of the Feshie and Mondaliaths mountains and the river Spey which the course follows. A great day “millionaires golf on our doorstep” all for £11! true highland hospitality and great views. The photo is of myself and Tom Jones the kilted man is the Starter Laurry Skudas a great friend and vice captain of the Newtonmore club.

After the golf I was at a  meeting for the Scottish Mountain Trust which I am a trustee. They do lots of charitable work from the sale of the SMC (Scottish Mountaineering Club) guidebooks for Scottish mountain and mountaineering. It was my first one as Trustee and interesting projects ongoing from the repair of footpaths in the Scottish hills to research projects. A long day and got into Fort William after midnight for the weekend on Ben Nevis.

This is the new Skye Scrambles guide a wonderful addition to any bookcase, the new diagrams are excellent, well done to the authors.
