It is amazing how long it takes for the old body to recover after my day out last week. I slipped on the way off in the steep wet grass as it was pouring and very slippy. Getting on in years means you are not so quick to recover and I tumbled a bit bruising my back and injuring my knee, I was lucky really. I had on light weight boots on which are fine in the dry but not so good in the wet, you learn every day! I found some old photo albums of my early days on the hills and my first Big walk across Scotland in May 1977 a North – South over 18 days from Ben Hope to Ben Lomond carrying 4 days food and big hill bags. We were young and Jim Morning and Paul Burns were superbly fit. The photo below shows us walking up the track to Seana Bhraigh after the keeper had given us help and taken our bags a great help. Oh to be young again.
I managed to sort out my kit boots are still wet and think I will put them away for the winter which is on the way! Hope my knee is better for John Mulgrews last Munro on Sat September the 6 th Ben More on Mull!
