Wild weather high winds and lots of rain! Lots of snow on the hills.

The weather looks wild today and I hear the wind and driving rain crashing on the skylight roof at Burghead. I had a look at the forecast for the Cairngorms today on the Mountain Weather Information Service MWIS it is not good at all for the mountains. ” Winds – Northerly. Rapid increase with height to give severe upland gales. Speeds 40 to 55 mph, gusts up to  70 mph – in places to fairly low levels.Snow most or all day; most breaks is snow southwest of Cairngorms Constant often heavy snow and whiteout Cairngorms, Lochnagar and Monadhliath. On southern summits in Cairngorms NP from north of Glen Garry west toward Ben Alder, the snow more patchy, but still off and on all day. Rain below 600m.Considerable buffeting where exposed from low levels, and higher up, mobility extensively very difficult. Severe wind chill.” No hills today for me! This weather forecast.  The production of the Scottish forecasts is fully funded by the Scottish Government through sportscotland with the support of The Mountaineering Council of Scotland.  Government at last doing something right, incredible that the forecast is not sponsored down South? So if you are out make sure you are prepared for winter! ( worth knowing)

Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) A great guide to weather in the mountains.

It was incredible to see all the comings and goings yesterday in the news. Donald Trump enjoying the spotlight in Edinburgh and it is a real carry on and you wonder how much of it all is true. His attack on Wind – farms (of which I am no lover off) is incredible and talk of deals done before his Golf Course was given permission is incredible. It makes one really lose any respect for those who govern us and wonder what is the real truth? Will we ever know?  Politicians have little respect as it is just now from the public and it looks like things are getting worse, what a mess. Planning is just been applied for over 200 turbines in the Moray Firth at Caithness, it seems Scotland will be covered in them, at what cost to the future of this beautiful country? We need a solution to renewable energy but at what cost.

On the brighter side – Red kites have been noticed near Hopeman, what a beautiful bird incredible sight for all to see. I have seen lots near the Black Isle but looks like they are moving along the coast.

The beautiful Red Kite - what a majestic sight.
