Everest – Harry’s Heroes

Everest Hut - 2001

Watched the programme on Everest last night, very brave young men attempting Everest after being severely injured in the war in Afghanistan. What a price they have paid in a terrible war  so well and to try and climb Everest was incredible. In the end after getting through the ice fall the Expedition Leader Russell Brice called it off due to the extreme dangers involved. The photo above shows us with Russell and one of his Tibetan Sherpas who had summited recently on Everest. This man knows Everest and I feel made the right decision for that expedition. A great call Russell and a brave one.

They are an awesome group, and I read a book on them recently. And I think one important aspect of mountaineering to never loose sight of is…summiting is optional, getting down is mandatory…
