Wind crashing all night – stormy East coast – off to Ben Rhinnes!

I have an old freind Pete Greening up from the land of hot rock and Surf Cornwall. He has been at a AMI weekend at Glenmore Lodge and is now up for two weeks for some winter fun. The weather has been pretty wild and is for the next few days, Pete is recovering from a injury he got blown over last winter in the Cairngorms wrecking his ankle when a freak gust of wind hit him. He wants to ease into winter so is dragging me out today hopefully before the weather gets worse we will see. The only choice really is  Ben Rinnes near Dufftown and Aberlour it is a grand wee Corbett  is a very familiar sight to residents of Moray and Aberdeenshire. This bulky hill rises far above its neighbours to 840 metres and is a very popular objective we will see what the weather does.

Pete was with us on Everest in 2001 but we will have a fun day no matter what happens. The weather forecast is below!

Southwesterly, strengthening from around  40 mph through the day toward 60 to perhaps  90 mph in gusts by dusk.
