Last night I had a great night at the Moray Mountaineering Club Indoor Meet, it was held in the Moray Distillery in Elgin and there were 4 great speakers plus the Raffle to end all raffles. The slides yes slides were great on caving from all over the world by Simon was wonderful. The Mountains of Ecuador and Japan all in bad weather by Alan, Dan had a wonderful collection of old Moray Club Slides “The Girdle Traverse” wonderful pictures of the past greats of the club, with a photo of the first ascent of the Vent a Grade 3 ice climb in the Northern Corries, marvelous.
It was non stop night of action only broken by the Raffle at the end with so many prizes it was such a night. The one piece suit was one of the prizes and I should have won it but Jake wanted it, so it will be long cold winter . What a great night in a magic setting.
I have not been on the hill for a while still waiting for my operations but managing to golf a bit. I have to get out and into the fresh air. Yesterday I was at Carrbridge meeting friends with amazing views of the Cairngorms. The drive past the Dava Moor was lovely with the heather and bracken such a marvelous brown colour as it gets at this time of year. There was no snow on the Cairngorms but seemingly the Ben has a smattering on the tops and the clocks go back this weekend. The trees are a golden yellow just now and with the brown ferns and with the sun out reminding me how special this wonderful time of year is. The light just makes a perfect picture when the sun is out, what a lovely place we live in.
It can be a tricky time of year as with the clocks going back the time on the hill get pretty short and with a bit of bad weather forecast with a cold wind chill it is worth wintering the hill bag and even what you carry in the car? Please have a look at the weather forecasts it will give you an idea of what is going on up high? I will write about this tomorrow.
