Outward Bound Loch Eil – 1978

Wednesday 31 May – Ben Nevis

Perfect weather. With the whole clan walked from Golf Course car park to a camp at the CIC hut, bathing en route at the Allt a’ Mhuilinn dam. I found a white “Karrimat” in the stream at the hut, mostly embedded in a snow pack. I met another German (to add to the 2 in the group) and he joined us, so there were 12.

After a tea break at the tents, 4pm, we climbed to Ben Nevis summit via Coire Leis and the Abseil Posts. We had to cross several snow banks, the final one from 2nd top post quite steep, but all seemed to learn OK, and all had ice axes so I did not think it necessary to rope up.

Descent by Red Burn to ½ way lochan where we left the other German…
