As the news get worse every day and the death toll mounts my thoughts are with the people of Nepal. It will be along time till we get the full story but the mountain areas are so remote that news and assistance will be slow to come. Please if you can you please give to help Nepal, there are many charities that will be working hard just now.
What can we say and my thoughts are to all those who are stuck in the mountains especially those above Everest Base Camp. These are great people who are so friendly and helpful I hope our government helps in every way we can.
I had a very quiet weekend and needed the break it has snowed on the hills locally and my fire is on. The news keeps updating with more casualties and the toll is at 3000 now and the scenes of places I love are tragic. Kathmandu is a great city with so many memories for me in past expeditions. It a incredible place and in 2001 I spent a week n Kathmandu igetting our gear ready for our trip to the North side of Everest. We had bought lots of kit from other expeditions with our Sirdar we managed to get most of it fixed locally.
It was incredible to see the sewing machines arrive in the Hotel grounds and tents and gear made as good as new saving us lots of money. Rips were repaired in tents and groundsheets and Duvets and other gear made as good as new. It was all done so quickly and so professionally by the local people nothing was difficult for them whatever we asked.
