Last night I was coming home after seeing the Grand kids on their final night it was just after 1000 pm. It had been a lovely night and a special time for me. It is a 20 minute drive home a road I use a lot and was taking my time and feeling a bit sad that the kids would be gone in the morning.
As I was turning just of the back road onto the main Hopeman/ Lossiemouth Road two cars were racing and one was on my side of the road, they must have been doing about 80 mph plus. I thought that was it – one car was on my side of the road my time had come and then smell of burning rubber immediately hit me.
God knows how but they had missed me, there was little I could do. I thought that was it – what can you say what idiots. So beware there are “nutters” about and you never know what is round the corner a very scary movement.
Thanks another life gone?
Glad your still with us. Those back roads have always been dangerous and used by the boy racing fraternity. Although there have been numerous deaths on these roads neither the Police or Council are concerned about the hazard to life. This can only be put down to costs, not worth the police time to sit there waiting for the minority of nutters racing, nor the cost of the council making the road safer. The only way to save lives in future is for vehicles to be fitted with a black box recording device, if a speed limit is exceeded you automatically receive a speeding fine. Your driving habits, ie acceleration, braking, speeds, routes used and times of day driven etc can be automatically uploaded to your insurance company who can either adjust your premiums according to risk, or cancel your insurance for being a liability.
I also believe a restriction on vehicle horsepower, and the limiting of passengers after a certain time should be introduced.
