They were found by two other climbers on Stob Coire nam Beith at 16:25 on Saturday. One has been named locally as Simon Davidson.

A team involving Glencoe Mountain Rescue and the police recovered the bodies.

A spokesman said: “Sadly, the two climbers were found to be deceased. Further details will be released when available.”

The leader of the mountain rescue team, Andy Nelson, said an investigation was under way to check for any sign of an avalanche.

Mr Nelson told BBC Scotland: “The guys were roped together so it’s possible they were still on the climb, but they’ve clearly fallen some distance.

“My information is that they’ve been killed instantly by the fall.

“They had all the relevant equipment, were well-equipped, and there’s nothing to suggest that they were ill-equipped or inexperienced.”

My thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved and the Mountain Rescue Team and Agencies who were involved in their recovery.
