Reindeer Connections: Inner Mongolia to the Scottish Highlands.
Brief synopsis: –
In 1952 Swedish Sami, Mikel Utsi and his wife Dr E J Lindgren brought a small herd of reindeer to the Cairngorm Mountains. They devoted the latter years of their lives to the success of this re-introduction.
However the story of Scotland’s reindeer actually began in China, indeed Inner Mongolia and so the Scottish story begins with young post graduate student Ethel Lindgren and her expeditions to study the Reindeer Tungus of NW Manchuria in the 1920’s and early 30’s.
