The End Of an Era – Closure of the ARCC Kinloss – The Aeronautical Rescue

Co-ordination Centre –

“This Centre exists to assist in the saving of  life through the efficient co-ordination of information and assets” Requests from the Military, Police, Health Authorities and Coastguard it is also the home of the Mission Control Centre.”

The search and rescue co-ordination centre at Kinloss in Moray is to close, the Ministry of Defence has announced.

A total of 27 RAF posts and 10 civilian posts are said to be affected by the relocation to the National Maritime Operations Centre at Fareham.

The Kinloss centre co-ordinates RAF, Royal Navy and Coastguard search and rescue helicopters, as well as the RAF mountain rescue service. The MoD said there would be no compulsory military redundancies as a result of the closure, and personnel would be assigned to other duties across…

    Great blog once again missed it first time and glad I caught it this time. Didn’t know that you finished your time at the ARCC must have given you a very rare 360 of SAR.
    I also share the concern you voice in your blog but like you know that change must come with probably more technology, lets hope there’s an old pain in the arse drinking a mug of coffee there when a really big job comes in (telling them calm down we will start here)

    I had the privilege of running a number of courses at the ARCC. I was sad when Kinloss became a barracks but for it to close is beyond that. A great group of professionals, who over the years helped to save countless lives on land and sea. All the best to past and present staff, Clive.
