Early start for Eigg – Gateway to the Small Isles.

ariskaig to Eigg

I am off to Eigg for the weekend leaving from Arisaig near Mallaig with the Moray Mountaineering Club  I hope the weather improves a bit ? There was snow  down to sea level yesterday just my luck so the 3 hour drive to Arisaig will be interesting, I took my winter tyres off!

Few rock features in the UK can equal the grandeur of An Sgurr the Nose is about 100 metres vertically and is the prominent feature of the Island when viewed from the mainland or adjacent Islands. Some of the early climbs were done by Hamish MacInnes and the late Ian Clough in the 60’s and now there are so many climbs in the new guide book! I doubt we will be climbing in the snow but an ascent of the Sgurr will be on the agendas!

Eigg Crags

The visit will be a great break there is so many places to visit in this wild and wonderful Island. I better get off down the road and hope you have a great holiday but if going on the big hills be careful it is winter still!
