I have just been told that Ewan MacKinnon is retiring after 48 years with Skye Mountain Rescue Team even longer than ex TeamLeader Gerry Ackroyd. Sadly I will miss the farewell part but what an incredible Service to the Skye Team and mountaineers in Skye!
In this crazy world it is wonderful to see the service given by folk like Ewan and the time all voluntary he has forfeited for others. I wish Ewan and his family a long and happy retirement!
It will be strange when you see the helicopter fly over on a call – out but 48 years of helping others is an incredible achievement.
Kind regards to you and your Ewan!
Please remember that all the Teams are Charities and despite a small Grant by the Scottish government really on donations to keep the team in a reasonable financial state!
All the team are unpaid volunteers and without their efforts it would be impossible to help and save so many lives not only in the mountains but within the community!
The teams are regularly assisting in the searches for missing vulnerable people in remote and rural situations. Mountain Rescue also assists in Emergency situations like floods, extreme weather and many other emergencies.
All are like Ewan incredible people and in this changing world we should never take them for granted!
These are the people who we should admire and respect not the faceless celebrities who dominate the world we live in ? Few who in my option have any real character or deserve the praise and adulation of so many!
Thanks to folk like Ewan and Gerry and others all over Scotland we have so many great role models for those who follow on!
