The village was very busy last night with thousands arriving in a busy wee village, the weather held but there was no wind to help the Clavie along but it was a great night. I wrote on yesterdays blog about the Clavie and its history The streets were full for this annual event to celebrate the Pictish New Year which finishes with Clavie getting taken round the village and burning embers left a various houses as token of good luck. It is an amazing spectacle and well worth seeing. The end is like a scene from Spartacus when the fireballs are fired at the Gauls, smoke and fire are everywhere very impressive! It was great to see the young kids spellbound watching this amazing spectacle when the pitch is put on the Clavie it is an incredible sight to behold. What a night, do not try this at home!
I had a few visitors and we had a good night in the wee house with many tales told into the small hours. I am off on the hills tomorrow the forecast is good with snow and hopefully clear weather. Winter is arriving back and we are in for some colder weather for the next few weeks. We are planning to go Glen Affric about 30 miles away from Inverness a wonderful Glen with some of the Last of the Summer Wine Mountaineering Club. I am sure it will be a great day out.
