Yesterday I traveled to Glasgow hopefully for my Laser Eye surgery. I got a lift from a pal to Inverness for the bus to Glasgow. The road from Forres stank of smoke from the wild fireS that is still ongoing at Knockando Wind Farm. The fire looks awful and it is a sad time for the wild life.
The bus journey was fine and I arrived on Glasgow late afternoon the Hotel where I am staying had a building getting knocked down next to it. There was dust and stour everywhere. It was the old police station.
I booked in to my Hotel and it’s only a 10 minute walk to the eye clinic my first operation is at 0715 today. I had a check where it is. It was then time for some tea and an early night.
Sadly I have had to go private for my Cataracts as the waiting list just to see the Consultant (I was diagnosed in early Nov is horrendous) it was 47 weeks Waiting list at one point and that was just to see a Consultant.
After a fall in the Cairngorms coming of the hill in mid Dec I got a big fright. Night driving was out and the impact on my life was getting worse. I decided to go Private. It’s very costly but the 2 year wait to get fixed was really impacting on my life.
I am lucky to be able to get it done and all being well I am in Glasgow till Friday.
Sadly I do feel very let down by the NHS a system I love and support. I am one of the lucky ones there are thousands out there who have to wait.
I have tried everything letters to my MP etc but to no avail. Surely the lack of eye consultants etc should have been foreseen by those who run the NHS on huge salaries?
It is incredible that we give money through charities to other countries for Cataract operations. Would a mobile service be an idea to cut the waiting list .
Your eyes are so important as I know having worn specs since 4 years old.
Hopefully all will go well.
Thanks to all for your kindness and Dianne for the lift to Inverness.
All the best Heavy, if you need any help in Glasgow , drop me line we are visiting our grand kids there just now …? Totally agree about the NHS … sadly those who can change things don’t use the service , good old Tory’s are trying privatise the NHS Cheers Tony
