A poem by Babs – our poet Laureate of the Moray Mountaineering Club

Heavy’s Last Corbett, Creach Bheinn, 25thMarch 2022. A big thanks to all who I enjoyed these hills with over many years.

So Heavy, ye’ve finally made it

It’s taken ye sixty five year

But the Corbetts are for savouring

“There’s nae hurry” is whit Ah hear

Ye winted a very low key affair

But yir numbers grew and grew

Ye couldna keep yir pals awa

Oh no, nae even you!

But secretly we ken ye’re chuffed

Sae many have made it here

Tae be wi’ oor very special freen

Tae climb, then hae a beer!

Selfish, ye’re nae, ye’ve come wi’ me

We made a trip across the sea

Tae Jura for a fine foray

Benn an Oir, a Corbett, whit a day!

We went on foot, we went by bike

Nothin’ wid get in the wye o’ oor hike

Ah’ve loved ma Corbett days wi’ you

Jist remember Ah’ve still got a few tae do!

Ye’ve done sae much, the list gings on

But this ane’s nae tae be sneezed upon

Congratulations, Heavy dear

At long last, ye’re a Corbetteer!
